Recent Vinyl

Here's an update on some new vinyl that we have recently purchased.

I will start with a few online purchases:
The White Stripes - You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As Your Told) 7 inch
I bought this off ebay from the Netherlands and got a great deal. It is a 2007 pressing that still has the sticker intact, I haven't brought myself to break the seal yet but I'm sure one day (very soon) I will.

Beck - Third Man Records Blue Series
The side A song - I Just Started Hating Some People Today - is really really interesting. It's the weird Beck that we all are used to.

Jack White - Freedom at 21
A new single from Jack White's album Blunderbuss. Side B has a non album track. I was too interested to hear it to not buy this 7 inch!

The Dead Weather - Live 12 inch single
Mr. Empty got this at Papa Jazz early one morning. It's pretty rare for Papa Jazz to have these in stock because they get purchased very quickly. It's a cool record and I'm glad that we own it.

Donovan - Wear Your Love Like Heaven
Found this at 2nd and Charles for 5 bucks! A great steal for this original stereo pressing.

Frank Sinatra - My Way
I brought this a Goodwill yesterday for 50 cents! The cover is a little beat up but the vinyl itself is in wonderful condition! My grandfather was a huge Sinatra fan so it rubbed off on me. There was almost an entire catalog of Sinatras records but this on was the only one is decent shape.

Bring Me To The Horizon - Suicide Season
The cover is pretty disturbing but Mr. Empty was super excited to find this record at Manifest Disc and Tapes.

Cage The Elephant - Thank You Happy Birthday
This record came in the mail the other day and we were both very excited! We got to see them play live last year and they did a bunch of songs from this album. I don't know why we didn't get it sooner

The Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense and Peppermints
I got this first pressing stereo copy for $8 dollars at Papa Jazz on our last visit. Upon inspection of the record, I found that it is beat to shit. But, the owner assured me that it played above the grade. I took a chance and it plays with pops, skips, or noise. Which is insane considering that it looks like someone rolled over it repeatedly with a desk chair.

Big Brother -Confusion
This album is one big bag of confusion! I'm not entirely sure what it is or who it is by but it's pretty darn good! It cover looked so interesting I had to take a chance. I looked it up on the internet to see if I could find any info. It turns out that this is an early sixties L.A. band by Ernie Joseph. I'll definitely be looking for more albums of theirs in the future.
Frank Turner - I Still Believe (UK Record Store Day Exclusive)
My friend David Goodship knows my love for Frank Turner and he was kind enough to get this and send it over the pond to me. I was super excited to finally get it after looking across 3 states for it and on ebay and having no luck getting a deal on it. Side B features a Queen cover Somebody To Love which is amazing. Mr. Empty and I had the pleasure of hearing it live last October in Atlanta. Thanks again David!

From ebay to shitty bookstores

Here's a few pics of some records that we have recently purchased and acquired from all over, including ebay and shitty bookstores.

 Indigo Girls LP
Mr. Empty picked this one up from a bookstore in Georgia. We got it home listened to it and realized that he really doen't like the Indigo Girls.
 Blind Faith - Blind Faith
I got this for pretty cheap. It's a later pressing with a barcode. It will make a great listening copy so we won't have to break out our first pressing.

 The Black Keys - Thickfreakness
Mr. Empty could not resist this picture disc. One reason is because it's the black keys. The second reason is that it's a picture disc. My personal favorite song off this album us Set You Free.

 Jack White - Blunderbuss
How exciting! Jack White's first solo album. I had this baby on pre-order from the moment I heard about it. It has some really good strong songs on it and is worth getting. I hope one day we can see Jack live!

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth
I found this today at 2nd and Charles. A big shout out to Maria Baez for selling this record back. If all plays out as planned, Mr. Empty and I may be going to see Joan Jett in September.

The White Stripes - Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground
The got this 7" on ebay for nearly nothing. It's exciting that I actually own this. Side B has a wonderful version on Robert Johnson's Stop Breaking Down. It is mind blowing. Seriously, go find it. Now.

 The Sex Pistols - Spunk
Mr. Empty brought this from Criminal Records in ATL on out way home from Nashville. It's a Bootleg that is mastered realllllll low but the quality is good. A few different versions of this exist, but we have never seen this one. The jacket opening is also on the left instead of the right. Maybe one of a kind?

Fun. - The Ghost That You Are To Me
This was a record day exclusive that we were unable to get because by the time we left Third Man Records, they were sold out. We tried several different record stores, is several different states. They sold FAST! Mr. Empty got lucky a few days after RSD and found a cheap listing on ebay. It is really unique because the vinyl is a 10" in the shape of a gear. It features 4 acoustic songs from Fun. It has an version of the song We Are Young, that we actually like better than the original.
The Gear shaped vinyl

Bob Dylan-The Times They Are A-Changin'
I was super excited to pull out this mono version. And for 21 bucks! I could not say no. I even passed up a live 13 Floor Elevators that Mr. Empty waved in front of my face. I held on tight and I'm so glad that I did. It is in NM condish and sounds great. Something to brag about.

Start of the blue series?

Dex Romweber Duo (featuring Jack White) 7"

This a recent ebay purchase. This 7" was one of the first few featured in Third Man Records blue series. I was intrigued by the ebay listing and it's 4 dollar 'Buy It Now' price tag. It is very White Stripes-esque. I really enjoyed listening to the two songs. Will this be the start of my Blue series collection?
Maybe...

The back cover features a mean looking Jack White with crossed arms.

Money for the animals

There is a local thrift store that donates all it's proceeds to the Human Society in town that we shop at a lot. They always have a good turnover and consistently have around 2 shelves of vinyl. I decided to drop in one day before work to check out what they had. I was pleasantly surprised to come across these. I ended up only paying $4!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience- Are You Experienced?

 Santana - Santana

Chuck Berry - One Dozen Berrys

 Spanky and Our Gang

 Easy Rider Soundtrack

James Brown - 22 Giant Hits

 Herb Albert - Whipped Cream

King Curtis - The Best Of King Curtis

Jimmy Smith - The Best of Jimmy Smith

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love

Used records at Charlie's

2nd & Charles - Augusta, Georgia

2nd & Charles is a used bookstore in Georgia that we visit at least once a week...or three times. Okay, we practically live there. You seriously never know what you will find in there because they buy literally thousands of new items every week. We having been finding all kinds of gems there since they opened a year ago. The prices have gone up a bit lately but it was days like today that we find cool stuff.

Lara's Theme
A random record Mr. Empty picked up on a whim.

 Earl Grant - Gently Swingin'
Don't ask and I won't tell :)

Nancy Sinatra - Nancy's Greatest Hits
All the best of little Nancy's songs. I love her outfit!

Grace Slick And The Great Society - Somebody To Love
The original band 60's band that Grace and Darby Slick we part of before Jefferson Airplane. I'm a sucker for San Francisco bands and couldn't let this go.

 Fat Mattress - Fat Mattress
The 1969 LP from Noel Redding. The same Noel Redding from The Jimi Hendrix Experience. This is a nice pressing on the UK Atco label.

Mannheim Steamroller - Fresh Aire VI
I don't understand Mr. Empty's obsession with MS. It's weird. He was happy to get this for less than $3.

Fat Cats: Record store number two in Boone!

Fat Cats was the store we were originally trying to get to in Boone. This store was a little weird, a little crazy, and all cool. Big wall with record crates on the left side, and video rentals on the right of the store. Chatted for a good long while with a cool shopkeep in here, he suggested a great Thai place that we went to after.

Ramona: "This has Superstition on it. Enough said. Also, it has the braille inside."

Ramona: "60s band, famous for Knock Three Times, and famous for from the movie Now and Then. Kind of like Ohio Express, very sing-along sixties style."

Ramona: "Never heard of this dude. On Vanguard, looks like early Baez and Dylan, one of those folk singers, dirty hippy in wingtips types. Should be interesting!"

Ramona: "Ike and Tina Turner Live at Carnegie Hall. Tri-fold, double LP, with lots of pictures of the happy couple, including one of Ike with machine gun bullets on a belt around his scrawny torso. Hopefully it has a lot of raw, live singing from Tina. Has Proud Mary, and Piece of My Heart."

Mr. Empty: "Picked this record up because I'm descended from Stonewall Jackson on my father's side, and I thought this guy might be related to me. Turns out that's a stage name, so, bummer. Anyway, Ramona tells me this is a rare record. It better be good or I'll just be disappointed all around."

Mr. Empty: "Found this record once in Fat Cat's for like $10, which isn't terrible but it's a little more than I usually am in the mood to pay for a Herb Alpert album that isn't Whipped Cream. So I put it back, and then when I went to their discount, "3 for $5" crates, I found it and got it for a lot cheaper. I haven't listened to this particular record but everything he did with Tijuana Brass is really great jam music."

Mr. Empty: "Classic BOC, not in the best condition, but I got it for nice and cheap, so I don't mind. "

Mr. Empty: "A later Carly Simon record, she started to get a little ragged with the hair but that's okay. I still dig it. :P"

Mr. Empty: "This is a Little Red Riding Hood record. Look at that scary-ass wolf! So many teeth!"
