Charleston Record Convention

Jim Sullivan - U.F.O.
I've been looking for this record for a couple of months now. I read the fascinating story of Jim Sullivan here: http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2010/11/10/the-strange-tale-of-jim-sullivans-u-f-o/
Read all about Jim and his amazing music! This record is absolutely divine, in mint condition. It was released by Light In The Attic Records in 2010 and is already out of print and I found it to be a little pricy on discogs and ebay. Finding this record for $10 dollars was actually the find of the entire weekend and totally worth the trip!

Joey Dee & The Starliters - Hey, Let's Twist
I'm getting really into Joey Dee lately and I have been lucky to find 3 of his records recently for cheap. I picked this up at the Monster Music sidewalk sale for 50 cents! Quite a steal. When ever I need a smile I put this record on and dance like this: http://youtu.be/7WIvZu4dPQQ

Halloween -Sounds Effects LP
Got this record at the Bargain Box thrift in HH. I found it to be really hilarious and I know that it will come in handy next Halloween!

The track listing is really what sold me on this!

Mickey & Sylvia - Do It Again
According to the vendor, I had just missed an original 50's pressing for a Mickey & Sylvia record so instead I got this mid 80's compilation. But that's okay, I'll get it next time! It is a really great collection of the bands hits and I have been humming along to the track listing for days now.

Little Richard - Cast A Long Shadow
Good golly, Can you believe I only paid 3 bucks for this? This is a later reissue of the original record but it still a little hard to come by. The cover is a little worn but the records are in great condition and I will show them much love!

Jack White and The Brick - Live on the Garden Bowl Lanes
Latest released Third Man Records Vault package. I have not gotten around to listening to the Bowling Pin white vinyl yet so I can not comment on the song quality as of yet but I have heard from friends that it is really wonderful. Hopefully I will be getting around to that soon! I have in fact listening to the 45 that came with it. The 45 on Golden yellow vinyl features early demos of Jack White and Ben Benson. At first the 'Steady As She Goes' rendition sounds very odd because of the heavy, and I mean HEAVY organ in the song. But by the second listen, I fell in love and actually kind of prefer it to the original...maybe. The B side has a White Stripes song that is kinda generic and doesn't sound very much different from the original. This package also came with a DVD 'White Heat' or the White Stripes and Whirlwind Heat on tour in the 00's. Excited to watch that, I hear that it is worth watching.

Fever Tree -S/T
70's prog rock on Elektra that I picked up also at the Monster sale for 50 cents. I was kinda unsure about it at first but then decided, 50 cents on Elektra, I can take a chance. It is very, very proggy but not bad at all. Recently, I saw this at a local record shop for 20 bucks so I feel pretty good about this.

The Youngbloods - Ride The Wind
Pretty neat Youngbloods album I got at the same sidewalk sale. Youndblood records are pretty hard to find around here so I was pretty excited when I found this!

Irving Berlin - The Columbia Album of Irving Berlin
Double LP of Irving Berlin's recorded works on Columbia. There was also something about this picture that made me buy this album.

Iron Butterfly - Evolution
Comp of the best Iron Butterfly songs. Got this for 50 cents also and I don't know about you but there is just something beautiful about a gorilla metamorphosing into a butterfly.

Frank Sinatra - Frankie
Early Columbia Sinatra record. Beautiful record in beautiful shape! Not one you see everyday so for 50 cents, I could not pass it up.

Melanie - Born To Be
I found this record neatly wedged in between two crate in a stack of vinyl that I felt like was someones digging pile but there was no one around to object when I pulled this out and took it for keeps. One of Melanie's very early, if not first record, on Buddah. I love the album art, it actually continues onto the back of the gatefold done by artist, Moyelle. It has the song 'I Really Loved Harold' on it which is one of my favorites!

Twistin'
I am so into the twist right now. This twistin' comp has some great artists from that era. I will most definitely be on the look out for other stuff like this.

Buddah's Delight - Buddah's 360
This is a really neat compilation with super cool packaging. It has a wheel encased in the jacket that you can spin to show the artist's name and a picture of who's on this album. A lot of notable 60's artists who were on the Buddah label at this time are on this album including the Lovin' Spoonful and of course Melanie. Elephant's Memory is also on here which is very exciting because they are one of my favorite bands that were on Buddah. Hopefully, I'll be album to get my hands on some of their records very soon!

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit/Even In His Youth
While digging in a box of 45's I came across this. Give it to the little old man running the booth for a price and he goes: "Nirvana? Never heard of them. $1"
I didn't know whether to hug him or slap him.

Frank Sinatra - Nice n' Easy
Sinatra record from later in his career that I didn't have that was at the sidewalk sale.

The Devil In Hi-Fi
So I don;t know why I bought this but I think that it's really cool. I mean how many people have the devil in hi-fi? Haha. I think I paid around a dollar for this at a church thrift. I believe they were very happy of me to take it off their hands.

Suzi Quatro - Quatro
I've had some serious luck finding Suzi Quatro records lately. I got this at the convention, maybe paying around $4. She just looks so badass on all of her album covers. I aspire to be as badass as Suzi looks.

Rock & Roll Forever

The following were purchased at a used bookstore.

The Doors - The Doors Soundtrack
The Doors soundtrack from the Oliver Stone film. It's pretty rare because it was only available through the Columbia House Record Club in the early 90's.
Rock and Roll Forever - Vol 1
Early rock n' roll comp that features awesome artists such as; Joe Turner and T-Bone Walker. I found out recently that this record is pretty rare so I'm pretty excited that I only paid $1 for it!
The Aristocats - Soundtrack
This was one of my favorite movies growing up. I used to watch it over and over and now I can rock out to the music!

Otis Redding - Live In Europe
Great live show from the legendary Otis!

Proper Crate Digging

Aretha Franklin - Lady Soul

Hank WIlliams

John Mayall - Ten Years Are Gone

Copulatin' Blues - Vol 1

Copulatin' Blues - Vol 2

New-ish records

Bring Me The Horizon - There Is a Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let's Keep It a Secret.

The White Stripes - Rag and Bone

Manchester Orchestra - Mean Everything To Nothing

Rise Against - Appeal To Reason

Bargin Priced LPs

The Best of - Judy Garland
Possibly paid around 2 bucks for this double lp of hits. Judy was my Aunt Barbara's favorite so this album has a special place in my heart.
Crispin Hellion Glover - The Big Problem?
Glover takes a leaf out of Morrison's book on this one, spoken word, unreleased songs, and crazy sounds. It ever has a Charles Manson song on it. Spooky.
Th Best of - Donovan
One of the many comps to sell Donovan on Hickory

Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair
For awhile I was hearing this Head Over Heels all over the place; in stores, on the radio, Donnie Darko.... It was a no brainer to buy this album.

Rhinoceros - Rhinoceros
70's psych on Elektra album that I took a chance on for $5. It's not bad, it's not good but the cover is out of this world and continues to gatefold.

The Simon Sisters
Early album featuring Carly with her sister Lucy before she was famous. Together the two sing really cute songs for kids. I'll hang on this album for my kids one day.

Doors Bootlegs

The Doors - Waiting For The Midnight Sun
After haggling at a record convention last year, I walked away not owning this record. I got the guy down from $80 to $40 and I still wasn't okay with paying that much. I got really lucky one day ebay surfing. I came across this lp with only a few minutes left on the action, $10, no bids, free shipping.
Great record! Live recordings and alternate takes from around the time of the Waiting For Sun album.

The Doors - Mr. Mojo Risin'
Another wonderful ebay find that I got for around $10-15. Lots of live tracks, previously unreleased. The album picture totally wonderful. Gotta love bootlegs!
